Public Sewer Flooding
According to North Hertfordshire District Council, the local authority to contact in the event of a public sewer flood is Anglian Water, unless you live in the southernmost areas of Hertfordshire, in which case you may be covered by Thames Water. If you are unsure which Water Authority is applicable to you, check your water bill. These should be contacted if you notice any blockages to the sewers or excess debris and waste flooding into the public space.
Road or Pavement Drains Blocked
Hertfordshire County Council is responsible for the upkeep of all highways, roads and pavements in the public area within Hertfordshire. It is their responsibility to ensure all pedestrians and road users are safe. In the event of a flooded gully, or damaged drain cover resulting in blockages, you must report it to the council to avoid further issues.
Blocked Property Drains
If you are the property owner, you are responsible for all drains leading away from your home to the point it either leaves the boundary of your property, or it joins the public sewer. It is in your interests to keep these drains well maintained, particularly in the areas where they join the main sewer. A burst waste pipe in this region can be particularly unhygienic and troublesome to repair or replace. We are happy to assist you with issues with your property drains.
